About the Program

Eligibility Criteria

  • General eligibility: Available for homes in Nova Scotia that are at least six months old and are used as a primary residence.
  • Equipment eligibility: Equipment must be new, installed and in service. All peripheral equipment required to operate the system must also be installed.
  • Property eligibility: Existing single family homes used year-round, including detached homes, row houses, duplexes, individual condo units and mobile homes.

About the Program

Eligibility Criteria

General eligibility: You own your home (demonstrated by proof of homeownership), it’s your current primary residence and you don’t plan to sell it soon.

Household income eligibility:
(Calculated by subtracting line 435 from line 236 in your Tax Notice of Assessment)

  • 1 person: $37,260
  • 2 people: $77,050
  • 3 people: $98,900
  • 4 people: $120,750
  • 5+ people: $126,500

Oil consumption eligibility: Your home must be primarily oil heated, consuming at least 500 litres in the previous 12 months (demonstrated by proof of oil purchases).

Equipment eligibility: Only the following cold climate air source heat pumps are eligible:

  • Centrally Ducted Air Source Heat Pumps
  • Ductless Mini-Split Heat Pumps

Remote Home Energy Assessments: Customers who are approved for the Oil to Heat Pump Affordability have the option to complete a remote Home Energy Assessment. Using video technology, you can connect with a Registered Energy Advisor via a video-capable smartphone, tablet or computer and eliminate the need for an in-person visit.

Please note that only heat pumps are eligible for rebates with a Remote Home Energy Assessment.

Do I qualify for rebates if I switch from an oil furnace to a heat pump?
Yes. Replacing an oil furnace with an eligible heat pump system typically qualifies for rebates, as it improves energy efficiency and reduces emissions.
